THE ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC POTENTIAL ANGARA-YENISEI MACRO REGION AND PROSPECTS FOR ITS FUTHER DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The Article considers the development potential of Angara-Yenisei macro region as a perspective “point of growth” of the national economy. It is connected with the fact that huge reserves of natural resources of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Irkutsk Oblast, the Republic of Tyva and the Republic of Khakassia which are a part of this oblast, are poorly developed and the most territory is not inhabited. However, the favorable geographical location of the regions, the proximity to China, Mongolia and neighboring CIS countries open up great prospects for building cooperation and developing the country`s transport infrastructure. The assessment of the potential of regions, that make up Angara-Yenisei region shows that Krasnoyarsk Krai and Irkutsk Oblast have an advanced industry and high-technology enterprises, and possess a high level of science and education.  The level of economic development of the Republic of Tyva and the Republic of Khakassia is low. This significantly hampers the formation of a single economy of the macro region. The acceleration of economic growth in the Angara-Yenisei macro region can be facilitated by the implementation of the complex investment project “Yenisei Siberia”, which includes 32 projects aimed at integrating the regional economy. As a result, a unified industrial and transport infrastructure, productions for deep processing of raw materials will be developed, investments from domestic and foreign companies will be attracted, which, in turn, will give a tremendous boost to the development of the whole territory.
