The article discusses issues related to determining the place and role of Russia in the world market of tourist services. The author presents a number of official statistical data reflecting the importance of the Russian tourism sector both for the country and for the world space. In particular, Russia is one of the main consumers of foreign tourist services. Based on the data of international organizations, as well as annual ratings assessing the position of a particular country in the field of tourism, the author describes the current positions of Russia and the components of the corresponding indices. In addition, the article analyzes the country's inbound and outbound tourism. It is noted that the development of domestic and inbound tourism can be the basis for overcoming crisis situations caused by the pandemic, sanctions and changes in geopolitics. Having defined tourism as a strategically important sector of the Russian economy, the author cites a number of strategic measures aimed at its development. Further, the author describes strategic measures and prospects for the development of tourism in Russia, by implementing which it is possible to improve the quality of national tourism and strengthen the country's influence on the world tourism market.
