The study of demographic security is one of the key issues that determine the possible prospects for the development of the region. The modern scientific literature presents an extensive analysis of studies on the demographic security of territories. A special feature of this category is the active influence on all spheres of human life.

The author attempts to identify the sequence of problems and factors affecting the demographic situation in the region to ensure its national security. The article presents an analysis of the demographic situation in the Kursk region. When studying the quantitative and qualitative composition of the population, such negative aspects as the aging of the population and the decline in the working-age population, an increase in the demographic load factor were identified. The analysis of the natural movement of the population revealed a decrease in natural growth, a decrease in the total birth rate.

The methodological basis of the research is based on a systematic approach, as well as methods of analysis and synthesis of theoretical developments and concepts of scientists in the field of assessing the demographic security of the region.

The author concluded that currently among the most significant demographic threats in the Kursk region are identified such as: depopulation; low birth rate and high mortality rate; Therefore, the problems in the demographic sphere that have formed in the Kursk region are among the most acute and require the preparation of new methods for managing various demographic processes or optimizing them.
