The article provides a comprehensive analysis of theoretical and methodological approaches to defining the essence and content of industrial enterprises' competitiveness. The evolution of economic views on competitiveness is examined - from classical and neoclassical concepts to institutional, strategic and innovative approaches. Particular attention is paid to the systematization of competitiveness assessment methods, including matrix, product and operational approaches. The role of innovation activity as a key factor in the formation of sustainable competitive advantages in modern economic conditions is analyzed in detail. The materials of the article form the theoretical and methodological basis for developing an effective mechanism to increase the competitiveness of industrial enterprises in the context of digital transformation of the economy.
